My first couple of hours at the coastal town of Progreso were spent randomly walking the 12 blocks from the bus stop to the beautiful (though as I would discover later-unsleepable) Abrazarse Life Retreat Center and B&B.
- The town hall, which, despite its Colonial Style, only dates from 1896.
- The central plaza
- Town hall from the front
- One of the problems of taking pics with a phone while in the sun is this: involuntary truncation
- These are all over Merida and here too. At first I thought they were more of a courtship thing but I have seen all sorts of people sitting in them and talking. I think it’s an interesting cultural difference between sitting next to someone and talking while sharing the same view (as we do up north). And sitting facing the person you’re talking to.
- Aureus Goldfinger
- This one was very petite but I’m on the lookout for a larger one for Lourdes, my ex- and forever.
- The B&B where I’m staying is the Abrazarse Life,(to you gringos that’s the Hugging Life). I saw this on my way here.
- The local agora
- Local style panorama

- the number of painted walls, for politicians, for ads, and for community events, is rather amazing.
- I recognize this guy’s style.
- Must be a NY Mets fan
- This is a panorama of a San Francisco de Asis store. Sort of a mini Walmart except without all the evil and insatiable greed.
- First thing I saw when I got off the bus.
