Instant payoff

While sitting in Trax, my neighborhood bar, I saw a bunch of young hippies sitting in their rented van out front and decided to share a little Haight history.
I told them about the Blushing Peony (now Piedmont Boutique) run by Janis Joplin’s roommate Linda Gravanitas and about the graffiti on the corner from 1968.
When they asked if I ‘smoked’ I assumed it was an offer to get high and I demurred.
But it turned out they were headed to SFO and wanted to give me the above, some hashish, their toker, and some nice smelling buds.
I don’t think I’ve smoked hash in over 20 years but the pungent scent is quite memorable.
Man, I LOVE my town!
